When I decided to participate in Dressember, my goal was to raise money to help women who are oppressed and abused. I had grand intentions of taking pictures myself in fabulous dresses and sharing them with you but reality was something a little different.
For starters, while there were some really warm days in December, there were also some super cold days in December. Cold days necessitated that I wear leggings and some dresses just don’t look right with leggings. Also, I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t figure out what shoes to wear with my maxi dresses so I only wore 2 maxi dresses and I only wore each one once . In the summer, they look great with my flip flops and open toes shoes, but they looked weird with closed toed shoes. I think Dressember would work even better in the summer although they’d need a different name. 🙂
I also thought that I wouldn’t get tired of wearing dresses, but on the super cold days, I just wanted to bundle up in jeans and a sweater. I also didn’t wear all of my dresses since some of them didn’t look right with leggings and it was too cold to wear dresses with bare legs.
Another thing that I didn’t take into account was how absolutely insane the month of December is for me. I typically didn’t think about taking a picture until it was practically bedtime…and half the time I was already in my pjs.
The biggest eye opener for me was the amount of clothing I wore. I wore a total of 11 dresses, but 6 of the dresses I wore multiple times. It made me realize I could survive with a lot less clothing!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not planning on getting rid of all of my clothes (although my husband would be thrilled if I did), but I am going to try an experiment this month. Sometime in the next 24 hours, I’m going to go through my closet and put together 10 outfits including shoes. I’m also going to put 5 or 6 workout outfits together since we hit the gym 7 days a week. Then I’m going to take all of my other clothes and I’m going to put them in bins in the attic. I’m guessing that this will mean a lot less mess and a lot less time spent getting dressed. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
