Weight Struggles

Weight Loss Wednesday: June 28, 2018

Weight Loss Wednesday: June 28, 2018

This morning I woke up and looked at the weather on my phone. It was only 77 (or so I thought), so I threw on a workout skirt and tank and headed out to hike. When I got in the car, I realized I had been looking at the weather in another city. The temperature here was already 88. I decided to hike anyway. It was my first time hiking in a few weeks and it felt so good to be back on the mountain. There weren’t many people around today. I guess it was too hot for most people.

While it was certainly hot and I was dripping with sweat by the time I was done, I’m so glad I went. It was nice to get in a good workout before the day got too far along.

I’m still looking for an at home workout program.  I looked at 80 Day Obsession, but then I realized I’m not very good at follow through.  I don’t think I’ve ever done anything for 80 days in a row.  I wish they had something called 8 minute obsession or 3 day obsession.  That might be a little more doable.

After deciding 80 Day Obsession was a little too much for me, I started checking out 21 Day Fix.  I think that may be more doable.  I ordered the little food containers and when I’m done typing this, I’m going to head out to get some sweet potatoes.  I already have some protein cooked and chopped up and I just need to get a few other things so I can start planning my meals.  While I’m still losing weight (and I still have a ways to go), I feel like it’s getting harder!

Last Week’s Weight:  214.8
Today’s Weight: 212.8
Weight Lost This Week: 2 pounds
Total Weight Loss:  54.9 pounds

This week was another good weight loss week.  I lost 2 pounds which makes me quite happy.  I’m hoping that by really focusing on my nutrition and working out more consistently, I’ll see even more losses!

If anyone wants to commit to doing 21 Day Fix with me, let me know!!!

Weight Loss Wednesday: January 3, 2018

Weight Loss Wednesday: January 3, 2018

Happy New Year! I hope your year is off to a great start! I’m thrilled to tell you that my first weight loss post of the year is a good one.

Last Weeks Weight:  267.7
This Week’s Weight: 264.2
This Week’s Weight Loss: 3.5
Total Weight Lost: 3.5

I’m thrilled to report that my weight this morning was 264.2 which means I lost 3.5 pounds!!!  That’s a step in the right direction for sure.  I’ve been really watching my portion sizes.  I’ve also started exercising.  I love to hike and have decided that rather than trying exercise programs that I don’t like and I’m not good at, I’ll try to hike regularly.

My first hike was embarrassing.  I didn’t make it all the way to the top of a trail that my friends classified as easy.  One friend told me she makes it up and back in under an hour.  I hiked for over an hour and didn’t make it anywhere close to the top. I also got passed by multiple old people, but I didn’t give up, so there’s that.  My goal is to hike it again this weekend and make it further than I did last week.  Eventually I’ll make it to the top…or at least I hope I’ll eventually make it to the top! 🙂  I’m guessing that as I lose weight and get in better shape, it will get easier for me.

Weight Loss Incentives

Weight Loss Incentives

I’ve decided that it’s time to up my weight loss game and so I’ve been pondering weight loss incentives. While I like the idea of massages and pedicures, I really like the idea of cold hard cash! 🙂

financial incentives

Six years ago, I started this blog as a place to share plus size fashion tips and to chronicle my weight loss journey.  While I’ve shared lots of plus size outfits along the way, my weight loss journey hasn’t been much of a journey.  I’m pretty sure I weigh within 5 pounds of what I weighed when I started.

I’ve been sporadic in sharing.  When I’m losing weight, I’m happy to post my Weight Loss Wednesday posts, but when I gain it all back, I’m not quite as motivated. At the beginning of January, I made the decision that this is my year to lose 100 pounds.  And while I’ve lost 10 pounds so far this year, I figured I’d be even more disciplined if I had a financial incentive. Here are the financial weight loss incentives that I’m giving myself to keep me on the right track.

Weight Loss Incentives

$10 – Each Weight Loss Wednesday Post (Online accountability is crucial)
$5 – Every Pound Lost
$2 – 30+ workout DVD
$1 – Run 1 mile
$.50 – Walk 1 mile
$.25 – Bike 1 mile

I’ll keep a running total at the end of each post.  I’m not going to allow myself to take any money out of my weight loss jar until I’ve lost at least 50 pounds.  And if I reach my goal of 100 pounds before the end of 2017, I’m going to give myself a little something extra (which I haven’t figured out yet).

Total Money In The Jar: $75.00

A New Weight Loss Diet Plan For Me

September 15, 2016 By Lisa 2 Comments

A New Weight Loss Diet Plan For Me

I was planning on sharing my weight yesterday for Weight Loss Wednesday, but as I started to type I felt like I needed to do more than just share my weight.  I wanted to share my story and how I’ve gotten to where I am right now.  As I looked back at my weight for the last 4 years, I realized that I’ve been losing and gaining the same 15 pounds…over and over and over again, so I’m thrilled to find a weight loss diet plan for me that actually works.

Here’s a little of the back story…

Five years ago, I weighed the lowest I’ve weighed since high school.  I was running daily, eating healthy and life was great! While I wasn’t quite at my goal weight, I was thrilled with the weight I was at and would have happily stayed at that weight!

Unfortunately, just a few months after this picture was taken, I woke up in the middle of the night with vertigo…and over the next few weeks, it got worse.  For 8 months, I lived with debilitating vertigo that didn’t allow me to do much at all. Those were some of the most difficult months of my life.

During those 8 months, I spent thousands of dollars on specialists and treatments and gained 104 pounds.  Crazy, huh?

The good news is I finally found a specialist outside of Boston who was able to fix my vertigo.  I sobbed in his office when he told me he thought he could help me.  And over the next few weeks as symptoms went away, I figured my life would go back to normal.  I figured once I was up and around and exercising the weight would fall off…but it didn’t.

That first year, I exercised regularly and ate healthy and lost 27 pounds.  And for the last 4 years, I’ve lost and gained the same 15 pounds over and over and over again.  I’ve tried every diet plan under the sun.  I’ve exercises regularly. And nada!

In July, I celebrated my 40th birthday and also celebrated 5 years without vertigo.  I wondered how it could be that I still had so much weight to lose.  I finally decided enough was enough and decided to try a customized weight loss diet plan for myself!

Weight Loss Diet Plan for Me

A chiropractor in our area runs a program called Vilulu which is a weight loss program.  The program starts off with a scan of your body that checks thousands of biomarkers.  The scan is able to give you your metabolic age and also tell you what nutrients may be lacking in your system and can also check things like thyroid health, adrenal health and hormones.

My scan showed that I am a hot mess! I have a metabolic age of 89!  I’m practically dead metabolically!  I also found out that my hormones, thyroid, and adrenals are not working the way they should.

I started the program which includes supplementation as well as an eating plan.  And I am at the lowest weight I’ve been at in 4 years.

Today I weighed 230.6.

I am thrilled that the weight is finally coming off!  The program is a 40 day program and I am on day 12!  I’m hoping that by getting my hormones, thyroid, and adrenal back into working order that my metabolism will go back to normal…or even better than normal.  The metabolism of a 40 year old isn’t great, but it sure beats having the metabolism of an 89 year old!

I’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks!

When You Feel Like a Failure

September 4, 2013 By Lisa Leave a Comment

When You Feel Like a Failure

I started this site to chronicle my weight loss journey and to share tips on fashion and fitness.  Unfortunately, since I’ve experienced more of a weight gain journey, I’ve been hesitant to post.  Really, who wants to hear “I gained another pound this week” or “I had to buy new pants because my other ones are too small.” ?  The truth is that things have been difficult lately.  It’s nothing major or horrible, it’s just life…and sometimes life is hard.  And when life is hard, the thought of losing weight is overwhelming.  And when I’m not actively working hard to lose weight, I seem to gain weight. And when I gain weight, I feel like a failure.

In my mind, I know that the number on the scale is in no way tied to my value as a person, but my mind and my feelings aren’t always on the same page.

I’ve made the realization that I’m only a failure if I refuse to try… if I give up and throw in the towel and refuse to give it one more shot…or ten more shots.

So today, I choose to be courageous.  I choose to continue to post even though I’m not making the progress I hoped to make.  I choose to make the positive changes I need to make to lose weight.  I choose to be vulnerable in sharing my feelings, and in doing so, I hope I can encourage one of you to be courageous as well.  I hope I can encourage you to continue even when it’s hard and it doesn’t seem like it’s worth it.

On those days when you feel like you’re a failure, please know that YOU ARE NOT.  You are valuable and loved.  You are not defined by your circumstances or your weight.  The Creator of the Universe made you in HIS image and He loves you more than you can imagine.
