If The Shoe Fits…

March 31, 2012 By Lisa 1 Comment

If The Shoe Fits…

If the shoe fits…wear it!

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure whoever came up with that saying was skinny.  Because let’s face it, there are lots of times in my life when the only thing I can find that fits are my shoes.

If I had written that saying, it would be something like “If the pants fit (even if you have to lay on the bed holding your breath while wearing 2 pairs of Spanx), wear them….especially if they make your butt look smaller.”

This weekend I’m at the Killer Tribes Conference in Nashville.  And since I’ve gained 52 pounds since the beginning of December, I can honestly say, my shoes are just about the only things that fit.

There’s something about conferences that makes me want to look my best.  I only get 1 chance to make a first impression, but when I could only come up with 5 spring/summer outfits that fit (besides workout clothes) and 2 of those were dirty, I had to improvise.

Although my outfits aren’t super impressive in and of themselves, I do have cute shoes.  At least I know I’m putting my best foot forward. (Pun intended!)

So if you’re at Killer Tribes this weekend, I’ll be the girl in either red high heels or lime green snakeskin ballet flats. I’d love to meet you.

For everyone else who I won’t get to meet this weekend, I’d love to hear from you too.

Tell me how you spice up a wardrobe of ill fitting clothes in a size you’re not happy about!

Black and White…It’s Not Just a Clothing Trend

March 10, 2012 By Lisa Leave a Comment

I’m a big fan of Black and White when it comes to fashion. Half of my “skinny clothes” closet is White House Black Market.  My current not-so-skinny closet only contains about 3 outfits (but I digress).

While I’m a huge fan of black and white as a clothing trend, there are some things that are just painful to see in black and white.  One of those things is the amount of weight I need to lose…and today I came face to face with that number.

Here’s the scoop…

I went to see a biochemist today.  This man specializes in helping you reach your healthy potential.  He evaluated all kinds of levels within my body and gave me a full print out with things I can do to improve my health and my current levels.

He told me my adrenal glands were shot (not surprising news).  My blood sugar was low.  My thyroid wasn’t functioning correctly.  He told me my potassium and magnesium levels were low.  And he told me I had a major rest deficiency.  In other words, not enough sleep and when I do sleep, I’m not sleeping well.

He provided me with lots of great info and told me what I need to do to improve my health.  He also provided me with a black and white number of pounds that I need to lose.

My number is 73.

It seems huge and daunting.  I’m pretty sure that’s like losing a 3rd grader.

But I’m committed.  Starting tomorrow, the journey begins.  Earlier bedtimes, less processed foods, regular exercise (once the vertigo goes away).

So who’s with me? Who is ready to tackle their “number”?

More Flabby, Less Fashionista

March 9, 2012 By Lisa 1 Comment

More Flabby, Less Fashionista
Flabby Fashionista and Dave Ramsey
This is my one non-sweater dress and in case you're wondering my belt is brown. Also, that really is Dave Ramsey even though he looks like a cutout.

Random thought of the day…

This blog is called Flabby Fashionista and unfortunately I’ve recently become more flabby and less fashionista.  I’m totally in a fashion rut…and not by choice.

I’ve been pretty much living in sweater dresses and leggings…and the dress pictured above when it’s warmer out (thankfully, it doesn’t get warm here very often cause it would be weird to wear the same dress every day).

I don’t have many clothes in my current size and I refuse to buy more since I’m not planning on being this size for long.   so I’ve been living in sweater dresses and leggings.  I also have a pretty strapless dress, but it’s a little too fancy for every day life.

So for now, I’m living vicariously through Pinterest.

Fat is a Feeling

March 8, 2012 By Lisa 1 Comment

I apologize up front that this is a long post.  In the future, I’ll try not to bottle up 3 months worth of emotions and happenings and then dump them out to you in 1 really long post.
Bathroom Scale
It’s funny frustrating how easy it is to let the way I feel about myself be determined by the size of my pants.  And while I’m not happy with the way I look right now, I’ve realized something important.  Fat isn’t a size.  For me, it’s a feeling…and a feeling I don’t like.

Before you start thinking I’m crazy, let me explain.

Three years ago, I weighed 30 pounds more than I currently weigh.

As I was losing weight, I remember being pretty happy when I hit the weight I’m at now.  I remember going shopping for some of the things I’m currently wearing.

Then I lost more weight.

Last September I weighed nearly 50 pounds less than I weigh now.  I absolutely loved the way I looked in my clothes.  It was so nice to be able to go into any store and find cute clothes that fit.

After Maui, I slacked off a little on my eating, but I wasn’t super worried.  I was still exercising regularly.   My weight stayed pretty constant til around Thanksgiving.

In December, my fitness routine got derailed.

I performed in a Christmas musical that consumed my first week of December.  I didn’t get  home from our performances til late at night and the idea of waking up at 5 to head to the gym didn’t sound appealing.

Near the end of that, our newest daughter moved in.  She had moved to America from Afghanistan and needed a safe loving home.  We were happy to provide that, but the addition of a new family member meant more change in routine.

To make a long story short, I only worked out 1 day in December after our new daughter moved in.

We traveled over Christmas and as January approached, I looked forward to getting back to the gym and getting my eating back on track.  My workout partner and I committed to doing Insanity starting in January.

I only made it through 2 days of Insanity and then I was hit with horrible vertigo.

And although 9 weeks have passed, the vertigo has not gone away.  I’ve seen my family doctor, 2 ENTs, a refloxologist, and a chiropractor.

Day to day living is difficult….working out is impossible.

And so I’ve packed on the pounds.

I now can only fit into my “fat” clothes.  And while these at one time were my “skinny” clothes, there is something discouraging about fitting into them because I’ve gained weight rather than because I’ve lost weight.

All that to say this: Fat isn’t a size.  It’s not a number on the scale.  Fat is a feeling…and it’s an ugly one.  It’s a feeling that tells me I’m not worth it.  “Fat” tells me I’d be prettier if I wore smaller clothes. “Fat” tells me people would like me more if I weighed less.

But the reality is…Fat LIES!

The truth is this…I’m worth it…no matter what the scale says, no matter what size my jeans are.
