Mother’s Day with “Shabby Apple” (5/18)

April 29, 2012 By Lisa 5 Comments

www.NaturalHairLatina.comI’m so excited that I’ve teamed up with NaturalHairLatina to bring you this awesome giveaway from Shabby Apple.

Shabby Apple is one of my favorite places to shop.  It is a fashion company for women, by women, and of women. They’re an online boutique that sells flirty and stylish dresses, skirts, and apparel that women can wear comfortably in the office, at a family dinner, or on a date.

Shabby Apple was started because there was a need in women’s fashion that was not being met.  A need to make women feel feminine and beautiful for what they wear, not what they bare.

They recognize that finding the perfect dress can sometimes be challenging, which is why they strive to design highly fashionable dresses for all types of women.  Right now you can get 10% off your Shabby Apple purchase when you use coupon code NaturalHairLatina10off at checkout.

Plus, you can win a $100 Shabby Apple Gift Card when you enter using the Rafflecopter form below!

Finding Clothes That Fit and Flatter {Part 1}

April 26, 2012 By Lisa 1 Comment

Finding Clothes That Fit and Flatter {Part 1}

Regardless of your shape or size, it can be difficult to find clothing that fits and flatters.  When you move into the plus-size category, it can be even trickier.

The truth is that many women secretly wish they could revamp their wardrobe and find clothes that are flattering to their body, but they simply don’t know how. More to the point, they might not have the confidence to run out to the store and buy a bunch of clothes that are going to look good on them.  Part of the problem is that women have bought into the lie that unless they wear a certain size or are in an ideal weight range, they won’t look good in their clothes.

In reality, women of any size and shape can look stunning and women of any size and shape can look frumpy.  I know plenty of women who have amazing figures who are in desperate need of a makeover.  I also know quite a few plus-size women who always look like they’ve just stepped off the pages of a fashion magazine!

Before you can find clothes that fit and flatter, you need to overcome the idea that your weight gets in the way of looking amazing.  It’s simply not true!  Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing tips and tricks to help you find clothes that fit and flatter regardless of your shape.

What’s your biggest struggle when it comes to finding clothes that fit and flatter? Leave a comment…

What I’ve Been Wearing

April 25, 2012 By Lisa 3 Comments

What I’ve Been Wearing

Last week I promised I’d share a little more about what I’m wearing, so I took a few pictures of what I’ve worn so far this week.  I really need to find a better spot to take pictures.  I’ll try to work on that this week! 🙂

Black Pants: Nordstrom Rack
Black Ruffled Tank: Nordstrom Rack
Lime Green Sweater: Gap
Shoes: Cole Haan
Hair Flower: Made it myself!

Black Pants: Macy’s
Black Tee: Macy’s
Black & White Striped Top: White House Black Market
Black Knee High Boots: Macy’s
Sunglasses: David Yurman
Headband: Homemade (Now shown on head because I was waiting for the glue to dry)

Dress: Fashion Bug (?)
Cardigan: Talbots
Leggings: Target
Shoes: Cole Haan
Headband: JCPenney

On Tuesday, I wore my hair in a faux bob.  While my hair is quite long, this is a technique I learned last summer that I end up using quite regularly.  Someday soon, I’ll do a post on how to put your hair in a faux bob!

So…that’s what I’ve worn so far this week.  Please excuse my lack of makeup in the above pictures.  I typically put on my makeup in the car.  Yeah…I know, it’s a bad habit, but it is what it is!

If The Shoe Fits…

March 31, 2012 By Lisa 1 Comment

If The Shoe Fits…

If the shoe fits…wear it!

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure whoever came up with that saying was skinny.  Because let’s face it, there are lots of times in my life when the only thing I can find that fits are my shoes.

If I had written that saying, it would be something like “If the pants fit (even if you have to lay on the bed holding your breath while wearing 2 pairs of Spanx), wear them….especially if they make your butt look smaller.”

This weekend I’m at the Killer Tribes Conference in Nashville.  And since I’ve gained 52 pounds since the beginning of December, I can honestly say, my shoes are just about the only things that fit.

There’s something about conferences that makes me want to look my best.  I only get 1 chance to make a first impression, but when I could only come up with 5 spring/summer outfits that fit (besides workout clothes) and 2 of those were dirty, I had to improvise.

Although my outfits aren’t super impressive in and of themselves, I do have cute shoes.  At least I know I’m putting my best foot forward. (Pun intended!)

So if you’re at Killer Tribes this weekend, I’ll be the girl in either red high heels or lime green snakeskin ballet flats. I’d love to meet you.

For everyone else who I won’t get to meet this weekend, I’d love to hear from you too.

Tell me how you spice up a wardrobe of ill fitting clothes in a size you’re not happy about!

JewelMint: It’s Like Having Your Own Personal Stylist

October 11, 2011 By Lisa Leave a Comment

I love clothes and shoes and jewelry and accessories, but sometimes I struggle to find the perfect accessory to go with “my look”.  I just discovered  JewelMint.com and I am over-the-moon thrilled. I seriously feel like a celebrity with my own stylist.

Here’s the scoop:

JewelMint.com is a webite that features gorgeous designs by actress Kate Bosworth & celebrity stylist Cher Coulter.

All you need to do to get started is take a personalized style assessment (it’s super easy) and you’d be surprised by how much the JewelMint team can figure out about your style from this short quiz.

Once your quiz is complete, you’ll have access to a monthly collection of bracelets, rings, necklaces, and earrings that your stylist selects for you.

You can choose to purchase your favorite pieces for $29.99 or buy nothing.  You’re free to skip a month and there is no obligation!

I highly encourage you to take the Style Assessment!  You may just discover a thing or two about your own sense of style!
