Weight Loss

Be Committed!

September 16, 2011 By Lisa Leave a Comment

It’s easy to be interested in weight loss or getting healthy. It’s much harder to be committed!  But if you want results you need to be committed.

Here’s a few steps that will help you commit!

1. Write down your goals and post them somewhere that you will see them daily.

2. Break down your goals into weekly goals.  If you want to run a marathon but have never run a day in your life, you may want to commit to make this weeks goal to take a 30 minute walk everyday and commit to starting Couch to 5k next week.

3. Tell people your goals! Start a blog, share with your friends, join an accountability group. You are much more likely to reach your goals when people know about them.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Now is the time to take your interests and make them commitments!

Do You Know Your BMI?

September 12, 2011 By Lisa Leave a Comment

Nutrisystem

Do you know what your BMI (Body Mass Index) is?

When I started on my weight loss journey, I had a BMI of 40.1 which put me in the morbidly obese category.  I had considered myself to be “a little overweight” but when I ready the words morbidly obese, I realized that I had more of a problem than I realized.

I’m not at my goal yet, but now my  BMI is 29 and I’m just overweight (I can’t even tell you how excited I was on the day I went from being obese to just overweight).

Right now you can get your FREE Body Mass Index from Nutrisystem.  (If you don’t want to get emails from them, make sure to uncheck the box!)  Knowing your BMI is a great way to assess where you are on your weight loss journey!

Kicking It Into High Gear #Mamavation Style

Kicking It Into High Gear #Mamavation Style

Two years ago, I started a weight loss blog.  I had been struggling to lose weight and had only been able to lose 5 pounds of the 100 extra I was carrying.

Right after I started my blog, I heard about Mamavation.  I applied to be a Mamavation mom…and I didn’t get chosen.  I was really disappointed.

At this point, I had already lost 20 pounds. I don't even know if I have any pictures of me at my highest weight. I avoided the camera at all costs.

I followed along and watched as those moms worked hard and lost weight.  And I realized, I could do it too.

In the meantime, life got busy…so busy that I quit blogging about my weight loss and just focused on my money saving blog.  I somehow stopped closely following Mamavation.  I still checked in on the Twitter stream from time to time, but I wasn’t seriously involved.

Fast forward 24 months…  I’m thrilled to say that I have lost over 65 pounds.

Flabby Fashionista Down 65 Pounds at this point
This is where I'm currently at...down 66 pounds!

Although I’ve made great progress, I still have 35 more pounds to lose!  And unfortunately, although I’ve been really good, it’s getting harder to lose weight.

And that’s where Mamavation comes in.  I’ve realized 2 things:  I could use some Mamavation inspiration and I know I can offer some Mamavation inspiration.  After losing over 65 pounds, I’m well aware of the many struggles and temptations out there and can encourage those who are just starting.  And with 35 pounds to go, I know that I will need some of you to encourage me some days and kick my butt on others! 🙂

So I’m committing to check in with the sistahood each day on Twitter  {Beware…in addition to this I have 2 other sites, so my tweets could be coming from @flabfashionista, @nickelsndimes, or @simplifiedsavin.}

Now…for a little accountability!  Here are my goals commitments this week:

1. I will exercise at least 5 hours this week.

2.  I will drink at least 2 liters of water a day.  I’m shooting for 3, but I want to at least get in 2.

3.  Be in bed by 11 and up by 7:30.  It would be even better if I could be in bed by 10:00 and up by 6:30, but I’m trying to make my goals attainable.

So that’s my plan.  I’m looking forward to getting back on the Mamavation wagon and getting to know all of you great Mamavation sistas!

And I’m going to be at BlogHer next week, so if you’re going too, leave me a comment or holler at me on Twitter.  I’d love to meet you!

I’ve Lost Over 10% of My Body Weight

I’ve Lost Over 10% of My Body Weight

Weight Watchers Success

Today was a great day for me!  Not only did I hit my 10% weight loss goal, but I also hit my 25 pound loss since joining Weight Watchers.*  I’ve lost a total of just over 50 pounds so far and I have another 40 or so to go.

For those of you who’ve never been a part of Weight Watchers, Weight Watchers rewards you with stickers for each 5 pound loss as well as a sticker when you lose 5% of your body weight.  When you lose 10% of your body weight, they give you a key chain.  When you lose 25, 50, or 75 pounds, they give you a charm to go on your key chain.  Today, I got both my keychain and my 25 pound charm and I’m more motivated than ever to keep on going!

If you’re looking for a great weight loss program, I highly recommend Weight Watchers. Weight Watchers focuses on healthy living and provides you with the tools you need to make healthier choices!  I use the monthly pass and think it’s the best bang for your buck.

If you’re not a meetings kind of person, check out Weight Watchers Online.

*People following the Weight Watchers Plan can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week.
