When You Don’t Like the Person in the Mirror

When You Don’t Like the Person in the Mirror

I’ve always liked myself.  I know that’s a strange thing to say, but so often I hear people share that they never felt good enough or they’ve never liked the way they looked.  That has always seemed so foreign to me.  Even when I was heavier than most of my friends, I very rarely felt bad about myself.  For some reason, this past year (which should be known as the year of ridiculous weight gain) has left me very unhappy with the person I see in the mirror.

I don’t like the way my face looks, I don’t like the way my arms look, and I hate that I have nothing that fits me and looks cute.  What makes it worse is that I’ve struggled so much with my eating.  You’d think that hating the way you look would make you cut out junk food, but for some reason, I seem to be turning to it for comfort.  {I know it doesn’t make sense, but that’s where I’m at}  On a positive note, I’ve been extremely consistent in exercising since I started Project 36.

While I’d love to say that I’m not going to let my weight define me, the reality is that while it doesn’t “define” me, it does influence how I feel about myself.  I’ve allowed my weight to keep me from moving forward with projects that I have the skills to tackle.  I’ve avoided events where people would see how much weight I’ve gained.  I’ve ducked into a different aisle at the grocery store to avoid seeing someone I haven’t seen in awhile because I hate the way I look.

So what do you do when you don’t like the person in the mirror?

1. Write down 3 things you do like about yourself.

2. Write down the 1 thing that bothers you most about yourself and what you can do to change it.

3. Vow to make 1 positive change each week to help you reach your goal!

So I’m making a vow…

I’m vowing to start over, to eat better, to continue to exercise consistently, to drink more water, and hopefully, it won’t be long before I start to like the person staring back at me.

If any of you have advice (or if you have an eating plan or diet that has worked well for you), please leave a comment!  I really need some input!
