Hair Care Tips For Winter Weather

October 26, 2016 By Lisa Leave a Comment

Hair Care Tips For Winter Weather

I don’t know about you, but in the winter with the dry air, my hair really suffers.  These hair care tips for winter weather are just what you need to make sure your hair is still luxurious and shiny despite the winter weather and crisp cold air around.

Our Hair Care Tips For Winter Weather are sure to leave you with gorgeous sleek styles! These tips are perfect for any hair style, color or texture!

Hair Care Tips For Winter Weather

Skip days between washings.  One of the best hair care tips is to limit the number of times you wash your hair per week.  Yes, I do understand that many people have oily skin and scalps so it may feel super dirty at first, but after a couple of weeks of skipping 2-3 days between washing, this will regulate.  The result is healthier hair that is not being stripped of natural oils every day.  It also makes your daily beauty routine faster and easier to manage.

If you can’t stand it between washing, an occasional use of dry shampoo is okay to do, but not on a daily or extended period basis.  Dry shampoo is great for the occasional use but is not recommended for us more than a few times a week at most.

Invest in quality hair care products.  Budgets often mean you skip the quality on things like shampoo, conditioner, and even hair spray or gel.  This isn’t great for your hair, and in the long run isn’t great for your budget.  Do your research and test out different brands, but pick quality at a reasonable price instead of grabbing the cheapest product available.  Most stylists can give recommendations of the better brands found in your discount stores, or a quality brand they have in the salon.

Do regular deep conditioning. I recall the days of using hot oil treatments being the normal Saturday night event.  While they are still a great choice, I much prefer using Argan Oil treatments or just a leave in deep conditioner during my shower.  A regular deep conditioner will help prevent and eliminate split ends and give your hair that nourishment it needs during the cooler winter months.

Limit use of heat and styling products.   We all love the fun beachy waves that curling wands create, or perhaps you have super curly hair and you straighten it regularly.  The thing is, all of that heat and those products can do some damage to your hair.  This is one of the most important hair care tips to remember.  Limit the use of heat and styling products.  Not just in winter, but always.  Styling can damage your hair and create more split ends leaving it look dull and lifeless.  Using products only on occasion is the best way to go. If you must use hot tools regularly, use a product like Pillow Proof to reduce your blow drying time and protect your hair from the heat!

These hair care tips for winter weather are perfect for making sure your hair still looks amazing no matter what the temperature happens to be outside.

Natural Anti-Aging Cream With Basil

October 11, 2016 By Lisa Leave a Comment

Natural Anti-Aging Cream With Basil

One of my favorite homemade beauty products is this Natural Anti-Aging Cream with Basil Essential Oil.  I love the idea of using an anti-aging cream on my face to help with those little fine lines around my eyes and mouth.  Even though I know that these are part of the aging process, it never hurts to use something to moisturize and gain some benefits to help slow down that aging process.

Anti Aging Cream doesn't have to be expensive! Make our easy Natural Anti-Aging Cream with Basil in just minutes!

Natural Anti-Aging Cream With Basil

There is no magic cure to get rid of all of your wrinkles and fine lines.  You can, however, create a smoother skin appearance by using a quality moisturizer.  This natural homemade anti-aging cream with basil and rose hips essential oil is a great choice.   The rich base of shea butter is perfect for deep moisturizing.  The addition of witch hazel tightens your skin and makes the fine lines appear to actually disappear.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup fresh basil leaves and stems
  • 1/3 cup witch hazel
  • water
  • 1 teaspoon almond oil (or your favorite oil)
  • 2 teaspoons Shea Butter (or your favorite butter)
  • 1.5 teaspoons Emulsifying Wax
  • 7-10 drops rosehip essential oils

Anti Aging Cream doesn't have to be expensive! Make our easy Natural Anti-Aging Cream with Basil in just minutes!

Directions:

  • Using a food processor combine witch hazel and basil leaves and witch hazel and blend well. Strain the now-green witch hazel into a half-pint canning jar, until you have ¼ cup of basil liquid. If you don’t have enough liquid add a little water to reach the ¼ cup.

  • In a microwavable bowl add Shea butter, Almond oil and emulsifying wax. Heat in 30-second increments until melted and smooth.

  • Add basil mix to the butter mix and slowly stir and allow it to cool and thicken.

  • Once fully thickened add 7-10 drops of Rosehip Essential Oil. If your skin is dry add 10.
  • Once fully thickened and cooled pour into half pint storage jars and seal.
  • Keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks

Making your own homemade natural anti-aging cream is super easy and affordable.  Many of the popular brands on the market cost upwards of $50 for a tiny jar.  You can spend the same amount and have enough to last for 2-3 years instead of 2-3 months!  I love how budget-friendly this recipe is.  For gifting to your friends, you can even add this to small beauty jars and add into a gift bag with some other homemade products.

Being happy with yourself doesn’t mean you can’t do little things like this to improve your appearance.  These little things can be just what you need to boost your self-esteem.  Accepting fine lines and wrinkles is part of aging, but adding our natural anti-aging cream into your daily routine is a great way to make them look a little better in the process.

7 Best Plus Size Cardigans for Fall

7 Best Plus Size Cardigans for Fall

I love sharing my favorite picks on my plus size style blog and these are the best Plus Size Cardigans out there this season.  Cardigans are one of the best ways to transition clothing through seasons.  They can dress something up or down.  I especially love how they are ideal for adding fashion trends while camouflaging problem areas.  This list includes my favorites for this transition season.

Fall Cardigans are the focus of plus size fashion for fun and functional additions to your wardrobe. Check out our favorites and mix and match this season!

7 Best Plus Size Cardigans for Fall

I am always looking for a great mix of cute and classic plus size fashion.  Fall cardigans are a great way to add some super cute looks and layers to my wardrobe without a ton of money.  I love the classic style, the new fun hi-low styles, and of course, the longer duster style Fall cardigans on this list.

Women’s Plus Size Open Front Pointelle Cardigan:  I love this choice in fall cardigans because the simple drape is flattering to every figure.  It’s also a great option with multiple color choices that are warm earth tones ideal for fall.

Hybrid & Company Women’s Casual Flowy Open Front Cardigan:  My favorite part of this plus size fashion piece is how long it is.  Ideal for wearing over leggings or skinny jeans if you want to cover your backside.  This longer cardigan is so pretty and available in multiple rich colors for fall.

Women’s Plus Size 3/4 Sleeve Textured Knit Cardigan:  I adore this style with the textured look.  It’s so perfect for those not quite cold days you want a bit more warmth.  The rich brown is great to match boots, bags and makes a simple pair of jeans and a shirt pop.

Kiyonna Women’s Belted Cardigan:  This shorter style with a tie belt is an ideal choice for someone that needs an empire waist style look to flatter their curves.  3/4 sleeves make it ideal for the transition weather of Fall.

Women’s Striped Long Cardigan with Elbow Patch:  I adore this as a fall cardigans choice simply for the style.  Stripes can be flattering to any figure, and the fun elbow patch makes this even more appealing.

Classic Knit Long Sleeve Cardigan:  This one is the classic cardigan style you expect.  I love the look, but especially the mustard color for adding a punch of color into your basic plus size fashion for the season.  There are tons of other colors available, and at the low price, it makes a great addition to your wardrobe.

BIADANI Women’s Flowing Drape Front Lightweight Cardigan:  The way this cardigan flows is so flattering to any figure.  The lightweight material makes it perfect for the transition season, and being available in so many different colors at a great price means you can really add several to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

The best thing about these plus size cardigans is how easily they flow into your wardrobe.  You can use them to stay warm over a simple t-shirt and jeans or to add style to a skirt and blouse.  I especially love how cute they are with my favorite leggings and tunics!
