Looking for Jeans That Fit Well? Consider Custom Made Jeans!

March 19, 2012 By Lisa Leave a Comment

Looking for Jeans That Fit Well? Consider Custom Made Jeans!

Every woman, short or tall, skinny or voluptuous, deserves jeans that fit like a dream.  When I’m close to my ideal weight, I don’t have problems finding jeans, but for some reason as soon as I venture into plus sizes, finding jeans that fit well is impossible.

And while many people lament trying on bathing suits, I think trying on jeans can be just as demoralizing.  Let’s face it…you can avoid wearing a bathing suit, but jeans are a staple of most wardrobes.

If you’re looking for jeans that will fit like they were made for you, why don’t you consider jeans that ARE made just for you!

Right now you can order a voucher for a custom pair of jeans from INDi for $95 (reg. $175).  While that’s a lot more than I’d normally spend on jeans, having a pair of jeans that fits well and makes me like the way I look is priceless!

I bought one of these vouchers as a reward for myself when I hit my goal!  The voucher doesn’t expire til March 14, 2013 although I hope to hit my goal long before March.

If you’re interesting in snagging your own custom made jeans, check out Mamasource.  This deal is only available through Monday night.

The Dukan Diet Explained

March 16, 2012 By Lisa Leave a Comment

Today I’m going to be highlighting a diet that is fairly new to the US although it’s been around for quite some time.  I didn’t know much about it before, but after reading about it and researching it, I’m tempted to give it a try myself.

The Dukan Diet is the brainchild of French doctor, Dr. Pierre Dukan, MD, who has over 35 years of experience in clinical nutrition. Around a decade ago, Dr. Dukan revealed his proposed eating plan, and it took the world by storm. While in theory, it’s quite simple, the execution is a little more complex.

The Dukan Diet has 4 phases…2 to help you lose weight and 2 to help you keep it off forever.  The Dukan Diet claims to put you in a position where you can eat anything you like for the rest of your life after you pass through the initial phases. Many people, including some well known celebrities, swear by it, and use it to maintain their perfect figures. It’s rumored that Kate Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge, used the Dukan diet before her wedding to Prince William.

Phase One – The Attack Phase

During this phase you are restricted to eating only lean meat.  The reason for this is simple: Protein is the hardest of all the food groups to process internally and thus yields the smallest number of calories processed and digested, relative to the amount consumed. Doing this you will force your system to work harder to digest its food.  It will also speed up your metabolism drastically.

Phase Two – The Cruise Phase

During the cruise phase, a number of additional foods – mostly vegetables – are allowed. While these are a little easier to digest, your body will still not be able to extract much in terms of caloric intake and will still need to work hard, metabolically speaking.

Phase Three – The Consolidation Phase

During the consolidation phase, more foods are added to the list of allowed foods. While some of these foods are easier to digest and absorb, your body’s metabolism has at this point been sped up so much that the other foods don’t really pose a problem in terms of weight gain.

Phase Four – The Stabilization Phase

During the stabilization phase, you can eat whatever you like.  You’re probably thinking “What’s the catch?” and there is a catch.  Each week you have to revert back to lean meat for one full day to try to keep the consumption of rich foods within moderate limits.  Keeping up this pattern will keep your metabolism running at peak level and will allow your body to cruise through the challenges thrown its way during the other days of the week.

Theoretically, this diet is brutally effective. The Dukan Diet Success Stories are quite compelling.

On the negative side, however, you will have to watch out for possible constipation – especially during the first week when you don’t consume any fiber.  You can help combat this issue by drinking as much water as possible.

Boredom can also be an issue on this diet since your diet is quite restricted during the initial phases.

Lastly, this diet can become quite expensive since you eat so much meat all the time…especially if you have a healthy appetite!

Have you tried The Dukan Diet?  Leave a comment!  I’d love to hear about your experience (and whether you recommend trying it).

Weight Watchers® Explained

March 15, 2012 By Lisa Leave a Comment

The first diet plan I’m going to highlight is a diet that I’m a big fan of.  I know many people who have had great success with it.

Weight Watchers® is the first weight loss program I ever remember hearing about.  My mom went on their program in the 80s and lost quite a bit of weight. (Since I was just a girl, I have no idea how much she actually lost….maybe 20 pounds)  All I know is that she was the same size after the program that I was in 7th grade!

Weight Watchers® is also the program that I used when I wanted to lose weight before my wedding.

Unlike many other diets, I’ve never heard a medical professional say anything negative about Weight Watchers®.  It does not involve any drastic shift in eating patterns or bodily processing and no food is off limits.

The Weight Watchers program has a few basic components:

First of all, for most people, you will cut down on your total food consumption. While you’re not supposed to feel as if you are starving, you’re also not supposed to feel stuffed after you eat.  It’s a great plan to teach you moderation, portion control, and choosing the right foods to fuel your body.

Secondly, there is a somewhat complex points system which is used to calculate what you can eat and how much.  The upside of this is that there is a point value for every food you eat, even Krispy Kreme donuts.  The downside is that the points for Krispy Kreme donuts are much higher than the points for veggies.  (This might be why I struggle with my weight).

Thirdly, you will need to start adding activity to your lifestyle. Weight Watchers® is great for offering practical tips and easy step-by-step plans for incorporating activity.

From a medical point of view this program makes logical sense – choose foods that are high in nutrients and then simply work off the excess energy by getting active and burning stored-up calories in the process.

For many people, the mere idea of cutting down on your food seems like borderline starvation.  Most people start a diet expecting to cut down on sweet stuff and junk food, but the idea of eating less of everything seems a little overwhelming. This program hinges on self-control and self-discipline.

In my opinion, one of the best parts about Weight Watchers® is support, whether online or through in-person weekly meetings.  Having a scheduled check-in time to ask questions, weigh in, and meet with others who are dealing with similar issues is a huge motivator.

Some of my best weight loss successes have been when I’ve weighed in regularly.  If you’re in the Fort Wayne area, I highly recommend any meeting that Kelly leads.  She is awesome!

If you have a packed schedule or aren’t a big fan of group meetings, you may want to try Weight Watchers Online. It allows you to follow the plan at home and gives you access to great online tools and online support.

I’m a huge fan of Weight Watchers®. I think it’s a sensible program with lots of great support.

Have you ever tried Weight Watchers?  Please leave a comment! I’d love to hear about your experience!

Start Losing BEFORE Summer

March 14, 2012 By Lisa Leave a Comment

Inside the Reef
Warm and sunny days like today have me thinking about sunshine and beaches. While I hate cold weather, it is easier to hide those extra pounds I carry under sweaters and jeans rather than in shorts and tank tops.

This is also the time of year where I know most people start seriously thinking about weight loss.  (I know people think about it at the beginning of January too, but this is the time of year when it starts to sink in that winter isn’t going to last forever.)

I’m seriously kicking it into high gear.  I’m bound and determined to fully enjoy this summer and I know I always enjoy summer more when I like the way I look in my clothes.

While I may not reach my goal by summer, I am bound and determined to lose a chunk of it by summer.

I know I’m not the only one who is looking to make some serious changes before summer.

Since summer is 14 weeks away and it takes 12 weeks for the world to see the progress you’re making, I’ve decided to take the next 2 weeks to give you an overview of some of the top diets around.  If you already have a plan for losing weight, I encourage you to start losing weight today.

If you’re not sure how to start losing weight or are looking for a diet that will work for you, make sure to visit often during the next 2 weeks.  I’ll be listing the pros and cons of each.  At the end of these 2 weeks, you will still have 12 weeks til the first day of summer.  That’s plenty of time to lose with whatever diet you choose!

You can check out diet plans in my Explanations of Popular Diet Plans series.
